[1] The 1627 will of Thomas YOUNG, husbandman of
Kirtlington, mentions his wife Jane and children Elizabeth & Thomas;
brothers Jeffery and John and brothers John GODBEHERE, John SLATTERS and Henry
LOVE. Almost certainly therefore, he was
the brother of Elizabeth, Jeffery and Margaret who were baptised at Epwell, 15
miles from Kirtlington. Margaret YOUNG
m John SLATTER at Bladon in 1619 (4 miles from Klirtlington). Epwell PR start 1577 so Thomas, John &
Mary (m Henry LOVE) possibly born before this date. This Kirtlinton family was researched in case Nicholas of
Kirtlington was another brother.
However, he was not mentioned in Thomas' will, though he was alive at
the time (1627) and it seems unlikely therefore that Nicholas was related to Thomas. Nicholas’ will might help though it is said
to be "decayed".
[2] Richard
christened 1648 at Kirtlington is identified with Richard the father of the
Bletchington family on naming patterns; note particularly James & Christian
twins of 1624, and James, Christian and John (triplets?) of 1685; also Ursula a
relatively uncommon name occurs in both families.
[3] Richard YOUNG
left all to his wife Mary but failed to name an executor. As a result his wife Mary and a Richard
YOUNG, butcher of Bletchingdon (and Islip?), were bound to produce an inventory
of the goods of Richard YOUNG senior.
Richard senior had two sons Richard but they both died young. It seems likely therefore that Richard was
his nephew, son of William & Mary who would have been aged 21. (It is not clear why Richard senior’s son
Thomas who would have been 26 at the time was not required to produce the
inventory)
